The best way to understand the real value of long term thinking on Internet advertising is in retrospect: time and longevity are important factors, but vision of what will be is equally important.

The cheese moves a great deal these days for those of us who must keep up to compete: but consider the following:

  • Every single niche market, that ever had a tabloid or a magazine, now has a splog; and will eventually have a digital replacement
  • Some of the players will change
  • Early adopters, who stay in the game will win

Example:

In 2001, I began writing articles about the Internet, and how it changes things for advertising consultants: at that time, the internet was referred to as IT (not advertising).    At the time, there were less than 50 searches per month  on Google for “internet advertising consultant”:

htpcompany was ahead of me then, and he is now, I can only hold on to line 2 and 3 consistently.

Consider the natural conclusion, and necessary action:

  1. Pick your market.
  2. Secure it now.
  3. Maintain your presence.
