When the water is low – the stumps will show
In my youth, I was a cable logger, really: like Axmen (the TV show). They had lots of sayings in the woods, some of which I repeat from time to time:
‘When the water is low – the stumps will show’
Is one of those. It refers to character: because sometimes, in the woods, things break, people get hurt, and the day can be very long: it is in those moments that you discover what you are made of: and sometimes, you are inspired by others.
The time when you accidentally find out who your friends are, is when you are challenged, beyond the limits of endurance: who will stand with you, and see it through until the triumph?!
In business, huge losses go with the territory. As SEO coach Katerina says:
“It really is a competitive sport!”
She is a Realtor: and she will continue to be a Realtor.
What she does, in spite of her many interests (which include going on the road speaking at all the conventions) defines her: she is good at it, it was hard won, it is who she is.
Imagine the way that you would perform in such situations: when it gets really scary - can we count on each other?
I am here, as living proof, that we can. I think about and write about human character a great deal: it matters to me, without boring you with how many of these defining moments have occurred in my life: the real battle at these times it is not between you and the elements; it is not between you and your competitors; the real battle, is between you, and you. It is at these times that fortunes are lost and won: as I am sure that Katerina, and my very many allies would agree.
Every business faces challenges financial and otherwise. If the team is strong, the business will survive. It is all about the team. In the case of our beloved uplog.org, that goes without saying.
